Hotel Continental Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Continental feels like stepping into Oslo’s living history — this five-star institution has been hosting guests since 1900, and honestly, they’ve perfected the art of understated Norwegian elegance. The lobby strikes that perfect balance between grand and welcoming, with rich wood paneling and crystal chandeliers that somehow never feel stuffy. You know what really caught my attention? The way staff members actually remember your name after the first interaction — it’s those small touches that separate a good hotel from a truly exceptional one.
Prime Location in the Heart of Oslo
The location on Stortingsgaten is absolutely unbeatable — I mean, you’re literally steps from the National Theatre and a five-minute walk to Karl Johans gate, Oslo‘s main pedestrian street. What I love most is how you can walk to the Royal Palace gardens in one direction and the Opera House in another, all while being surrounded by the city’s best shopping and dining. The proximity to Nationaltheatret station means you’re connected to everything, but the street itself stays surprisingly quiet at night. Couples especially seem to appreciate this central spot — and I can see why, since you can easily explore on foot without constantly hailing taxis.
Rooms That Actually Deliver
The room I stayed in was spacious by European standards, with those impossibly comfortable beds that guests keep raving about (seriously, I slept better here than I have in months). The décor leans classic rather than trendy — think rich fabrics, quality furniture, and bathrooms with proper counter space. What struck me was the attention to detail: blackout curtains that actually block light, outlets positioned where you need them, and windows that open for fresh air. The housekeeping is meticulous too — I never had to ask twice for anything.
Dining and Amenities
The breakfast buffet here is something special — not just the usual hotel spread, but a proper Norwegian breakfast with fresh seafood, local cheeses, and pastries that taste like they came from a neighborhood bakery. The restaurant downstairs, Theatercaféen, has this old-world charm that makes you want to linger over dinner (book ahead though, locals eat here regularly). I was pleasantly surprised to find parking available right at the hotel — in central Oslo, that’s practically a luxury in itself. The concierge team knows their stuff too, giving recommendations that feel personal rather than scripted.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
There’s something about Hotel Continental that creates loyal customers — maybe it’s the consistency, or how they manage to feel both grand and genuinely warm. The staff treats repeat guests like family, but newcomers get the same level of attention. For the price point, you’re getting authentic luxury without the pretense, plus a location that puts Oslo’s best attractions at your doorstep. If you want to experience the city like a well-connected local rather than a tourist, this is your base camp.
The luxury concierge service in Oslo secures designer atelier fittings, heli-ski weekends, and gourmet cabins beneath the aurora.

This hotel could be compared to the Fairmont of North America…it is class and well run. All staff spoke excellent English and were more than happy to help. The hotel was clean and well put together. We had a deluxe room, which was wonderful, quiet, spacious. I would have loved a bigger bath, but that is minor. Breakfast was amazing, lots to choose from, either buffet or order. I'm going to stay here again
