First Impressions

Walking into Smarthotel Oslo on St. Olavs gate, you immediately get that this is a three-star property that knows exactly what it’s doing. The lobby has this clean, Nordic minimalism thing going on — nothing fancy, but everything feels intentional and well-thought-out. I mean, the name pretty much tells you what to expect: smart design choices without the frills you don’t really need anyway.

Location & Getting Around

Honestly, the location is probably the hotel’s biggest win. You’re right in the heart of Oslo, and I can see why couples rate it so highly — there’s something romantic about being able to walk to pretty much everything worth seeing. The Royal Palace is just a few blocks away, and you can easily stroll down to the harbor area or catch a tram to Vigeland Park. What I really appreciated was how you’re close enough to the action but on a quieter street, so you’re not dealing with constant noise from Karl Johans gate.

The Room Experience

The room design is where that “smart” concept really shows. Everything has a purpose — the bed is comfortable enough, storage solutions are cleverly built in, and there’s decent natural light. You know what surprised me? The shower actually has good water pressure, which isn’t always a given in older Oslo buildings. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re efficiently laid out in that Scandinavian way where every square meter counts.

Breakfast & Daily Rhythms

The buffet breakfast is solid — nothing that’ll blow your mind, but it covers all the basics and then some. Fresh bread, good coffee, and enough variety to fuel a day of exploring. I noticed quite a few repeat guests during my stay, which honestly says something about a place.
