Sommerro Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Sommerro feels like stepping into something truly special — this five-star hotel occupies a stunning Art Deco building that was once Oslo’s main power station, and honestly, they’ve done something remarkable with the space. The lobby alone will make you pause and look up, with these soaring ceilings and original architectural details that remind you this place has serious history. You know what strikes me most? It’s how they’ve managed to blend that industrial heritage with genuine luxury without making it feel forced or gimmicky.
Location & Neighborhood
The Frogner district is actually one of Oslo‘s most desirable areas, and Sommerro sits right in the sweet spot where you can walk to pretty much everything that matters. I mean, you’re literally minutes from the Royal Palace and Vigeland Sculpture Park, but what I really love is how the hotel feels connected to the neighborhood rather than isolated from it. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets in the evening, then coming back to your own little sanctuary. Plus, the tram connections are right there when you want to explore further out.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had this perfect balance of Scandinavian minimalism and actual comfort — you know how some design hotels can feel a bit cold? Not here. The windows are massive, flooding everything with that beautiful Nordic light, and the attention to detail is just… well, it’s what you’d expect from a place like this. The bathroom alone feels like a small spa experience, with heated floors that you’ll appreciate during Oslo’s cooler months. What really got me was the little touches — the locally sourced amenities and the way they’ve incorporated elements that nod to the building’s industrial past.
Dining & Social Spaces
The breakfast buffet is honestly impressive — not just in variety, but in quality. You’ll find everything from traditional Norwegian fare to international options, and it’s all presented beautifully in the main restaurant space. But here’s what I didn’t expect: the hotel has this rooftop bar that becomes the place to be in the evenings. The views over Oslo are spectacular, and there’s something about having a cocktail up there that makes you feel like you’re in on a local secret. The lobby area also works perfectly as a meeting spot or just a place to decompress with a coffee.
Why Guests Love It
What sets Sommerro apart is how it manages to feel both grand and intimate at the same time. The service is attentive without being overbearing, and there’s this sense that everyone working there actually cares about your experience. The location really is exceptional — guests consistently rave about being able to walk everywhere, and I can see why couples especially love it here. It’s sophisticated enough for special occasions but comfortable enough that you don’t feel like you’re performing the whole time. This is the kind of place that makes Oslo feel accessible and welcoming, which isn’t always easy in a city that can sometimes feel a bit reserved.
The concierge service in Oslo arranges fjord yacht banquets, private museum openings, and mountaintop sauna rituals.

The breakfast was lovely. Location was great, it's right across the tram rails so we mainly used those to get around the city for shopping and christmas markets, etc. Staff was very accommodating even though we were extremely late to check in due to plane delays.
