Vika I, As Home Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Vika I, As Home on Observatoriegata, you immediately get why this three-star place has such devoted fans. It’s tucked into one of those classic Oslo buildings that feels authentically Norwegian without trying too hard. The entrance has this understated elegance — nothing flashy, just clean lines and that Scandinavian attention to detail that makes everything feel intentional. I mean, when a property consistently scores 9.5 from guests, you know they’re doing something right.
The Frogner Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in Frogner — you’re basically in the sweet spot of Oslo. This neighborhood has that perfect mix of residential calm and urban accessibility that locals actually prefer over the touristy areas. You can walk to Vigeland Park in about ten minutes (honestly, it’s one of those walks where you discover little cafés and shops you’d never find otherwise), and the Royal Palace is just a pleasant stroll away. The couples who rate this location 9.7 aren’t wrong — there’s something romantic about wandering these tree-lined streets, especially in the evening when the light hits just right.
The Space Itself
The room I stayed in felt more like a well-designed studio apartment than a typical hotel space. Everything’s thoughtfully arranged — you’ve got proper storage, a workspace that actually works, and windows that let in that gorgeous Nordic light. The furnishings lean modern but warm, with those muted colors that somehow make you feel instantly relaxed. What struck me most was how quiet it was, even though you’re right in the city. The soundproofing is surprisingly good, which matters more than you’d think when you’re trying to adjust to a different time zone.
Practical Comforts
You know what’s refreshing? A place that gets the basics absolutely right without making a big deal about it. The Wi-Fi actually works everywhere, the shower has proper water pressure, and the heating system responds quickly — small things that make a huge difference when you’re settling in for several days. The housekeeping team clearly takes pride in their work; everything stays spotless without feeling sterile. There’s also this attention to local touches that feels genuine rather than performative — Norwegian design elements that enhance the space rather than screaming “look how Nordic we are.”
Why Guests Love It
After spending time here, that 9.8 location rating makes perfect sense. It’s not just about being centrally located (though you are) — it’s about being in a neighborhood that feels like real Oslo. You’ll find yourself walking to the corner bakery for morning pastries, discovering that little wine bar three blocks over, or just enjoying how easy it is to navigate the city from this base. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, offering recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. For a three-star property, Vika I, As Home delivers an experience that feels much more premium than its category suggests, which probably explains why guests keep coming back.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Oslo before summer festivals light up Aker Brygge with concerts and sail regattas.

Great location – we were able to walk pretty much everywhere even with our 8 year old. Very comfortable – beds were the most comfortable I’ve slept in in ages. Manager was incredibly helpful – met us off the tram, showed us around and gave us some good tips. Kitchen had everything we needed. I highly recommend it!

Super clean, convenient to multiple different types of transportation, comfortable beds, sofa and chairs, plenty of hot water and heated bathroom floor, kitchen was supplied with everything you need minus a blender. Would definitely stay again, safe neighborhood, very quiet at night, cute interior courtyard. The host was wonderful! Anytime we had questions, she answered right away!
