Home Hotel Gabelshus Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Home Hotel Gabelshus on a quiet tree-lined street in Frogner, you immediately get why this place has such a loyal following. It’s one of those three-star hotels that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — just solid, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming. The building itself has character, and honestly, the whole setup feels more like staying at a well-run guesthouse than a typical hotel. The attention to detail in every corner reflects a commitment to guest satisfaction that goes beyond standard hospitality.
The Frogner Advantage
You know what’s great about this location? You’re in Oslo’s most desirable neighborhood without paying Aker Brygge prices. Frogner is where locals actually want to live — tree-lined streets, beautiful architecture, and you can walk to Vigeland Park in about ten minutes. The couples who stay here absolutely love it (they rate the location 9.1), and I get it. You’re close enough to the city center but far enough away that you feel like you’re experiencing real Oslo, not just tourist Oslo. This balance makes it an ideal base for exploring the city’s authentic character.
Your Room and Comfort
The rooms here are what I’d call “thoughtfully simple” — clean lines, comfortable beds, and everything you actually need without unnecessary frills. Each room feels like it was designed by someone who travels a lot and knows what matters. The staff clearly takes pride in maintaining everything well, and there’s something refreshing about a place that focuses on getting the basics absolutely right rather than overwhelming you with amenities you won’t use. Natural light floods through the windows, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Food That Actually Matters
Here’s where Home Hotel Gabelshus really surprised me — the food is genuinely good. I mean, how often can you say that about hotel dining? The breakfast spread includes continental options, vegetarian choices, and gluten-free items, all laid out buffet-style. But it’s not just the variety; everything tastes fresh and well-prepared. The restaurant operation here clearly takes itself seriously, which explains why recent guests keep raving about the meals. Plus, there’s parking available right at the hotel, which anyone who’s tried to park in central Oslo will appreciate.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most about this place is the repeat guest factor — people genuinely come back here more than at most other properties. That tells you something important about the experience. It’s not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but it delivers on what matters: a great location in Frogner, consistently good service, surprisingly excellent food, and rooms that feel like a proper retreat after a day exploring the city. The hotel’s philosophy of understated excellence creates an environment where guests feel genuinely cared for. Sometimes the best hotels are the ones that just get everything right without making a big fuss about it.

Location is just few steps from the city center. Hotel offers breakfast and dinner. It has a car parking, is well maintained and stylish. I loved it.

A lovely old building, but with modern facilities. Warm, clean, and comfortable.
Situated in a nice residential part of Oslo, near Vigeland Park, a short tram ride of 10 minutes into the city centre.
My prior request for a walk in shower in our room, and in a renovated room, was facilitated.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Good breakfast, dinner was ok, but good value for the price of a room.Robert from United Kingdom (7/10)
Style and peace and quiet
Leonid from Norway (8/10)
Well ventilated with a comfortable bed. No delays with checking in and out. Very convenient location. Good assortment of food for breakfast.
Swagata from United Kingdom (8/10)
Loved the location, it was only a short tram ride away from the part of city centre that we needed to access daily. Also, loved daily breakfast and dinner options. Though options were limited, they were delicious, covered all the healthy food groups, and were of great quality. In fact, I personally liked the limited options as it meant far less food waste than you see at the bigger hotels and resorts around the world these days. The room was really warm and well insulated, so even in -10/-15 degrees celsius, we were warm as toast 🙂
Goutham from Switzerland (8/10)
Staff was friendly and helpful, the hotel looks charming and has some nice amenities like a gym and sauna, parking is available and while not suited for huge cars, it's quite decent. The location is incredible!
