Lysebu Hotel Overview

First Impressions

You know what hits you first when you arrive at Lysebu Hotel? It’s not just another five-star property trying too hard to impress — this place actually feels like it belongs in the Norwegian landscape. Perched up in the Holmenkollen area of Oslo, the hotel sits surrounded by forest, and honestly, the setting is pretty spectacular. I mean, you’re still technically in the city, but it feels like you’ve escaped to some luxury mountain retreat.

Location & Getting Around

The location is genuinely brilliant, especially if you’re traveling as a couple — there’s something romantic about being tucked away in the hills while still having easy access to downtown Oslo. You’re about 15 minutes from the city center by car, but here’s the thing: you’ll want to stay put more often than you’d expect. The Holmenkollen ski jump is practically next door, and the hiking trails start right from the hotel grounds. During winter, well, you’re in cross-country skiing paradise.

The Room Experience

The rooms here are where this hotel really shines — and I’m not just saying that because of the luxury touches. The beds are genuinely some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in Norway, which explains why guests keep raving about the sleep quality. Each room feels spacious without being cavernous, and the views… honestly, you’ll find yourself just standing at the window. Some overlook the Oslo fjord, others face the forest, and both options have their charm. The bathrooms are modern but not sterile, with that Scandinavian design sensibility that makes everything feel calm.

Dining & Amenities

Breakfast here is actually worth getting up for — they do a proper buffet with both continental options and full English fare, plus some Norwegian specialties that you won’t find at every hotel. The restaurant focuses on Nordic cuisine, and while it’s pricey (this is Norway, after all), the quality justifies the cost. There’s also a spa that feels more intimate than overwhelming, perfect after a day of hiking or exploring the city. Parking is available on-site, which is honestly a relief given how tricky it can be to find spots in Oslo.

Why Guests Love It

What makes Lysebu Hotel special isn’t any single luxury amenity — it’s how everything comes together. You get the sophistication of a top-tier Oslo hotel without feeling like you’re trapped in the urban hustle. The staff genuinely knows the area and can point you toward hiking trails or local spots that aren’t in every guidebook. Plus, there’s something satisfying about telling people you stayed “up in Holmenkollen” — it sounds impressive, and the location actually delivers on that promise. Whether you’re here for business or pleasure, this place manages to feel both refined and genuinely Norwegian.

The concierge service in Oslo arranges fjord yacht banquets, private museum openings, and mountaintop sauna rituals.

We stayed here for 2 nights last weekend and loved everything about Lysebu. It was an early 50th birthday present for my partner and I asked if there could be a bottle of champagne in the room. There was a bottle of Moet on ice ready for us when we arrived.
Our room was gorgeous, we had a lovely view over the forest towards a ski slope from the huge windows and woke up the first morning to lots of snow, it was magical.
I am vegan which I had already made them aware of and had a delicious 2 courses for dinner and a breakfast made especially for me. They had soya, oat and coconut milk available.
The staff were so lovely and accommodating, with special mention to Parth on reception who was so patient and helpful with us when we were trying to work out our journey and times from the hotel to Torp airport (we had to leave the hotel at 5.30am for the metro and train).
The hotel was decorated ready for Christmas which made it even more special and we hope to come back one day. Loved it.

The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, upgrading our room for us when we arrived earlier than expected. The swimming pool, sauna, and gym were excellent and clean. We have never had such a fantastic selection for breakfast, or eaten it with such a peaceful view. incredible !

The place is beautiful, with a view where you can appreciate the beauty of the landscape. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel at home. The facilities are very clean and the room is very comfortable. The food is delicious, especially breakfast.

  • Dolores from United States (9/10)

The hotel is very charming. It sits high above the city and the area was quiet. The room was a good size and comfortable. The walls are rather thin so noises from other rooms were heard but if you're a sound sleeper there shouldn't be a problem. Lounges were available for visiting, the main one with a lovely fireplace. It has a pool and spa, all well equipped. The staff was most helpful and courteous. The breakfast was exceptional. A really good place to stay in the city.

The view, the atmosphere, the staff, everything was great. Peaceful and beautiful, Oslo at its best.
